Spader's Stellar Cowboy

Toby

Health Information

!!!!AVAILABLE!!!!

This has been something that has been really hard for me to come to terms with, but in order to move my program forward, I am going to have to place a couple of dogs. I am starting to look for a home for Toby.

Toby is a tough dog but will love you hard! He needs a home that will set rules and boundaries for him. He is 9 years old, born 1/10/13. He is very well trained, good in the house, heels on and off lead, is kennel trained, crate trained, plays fetch, knows tricks, waits for meals, etc. He is friendly, travels decent though he does need to be crated in the car because he gets so excited.

He is pretty far along in his training on stock. He knows his flanks, will do inside and outside flanks, drives, downs, and has a good recall. He will bite both ends. Although his nose bite has gotten a touch weaker with age, he will still grab a hold in a one on one situation. He has worked ducks (not in a long time), sheep, goats, and cattle. On cattle, he has worked everything from calves to pairs.

Here is the bad, he will need to go to a home with no other intact male dogs. He is 100% alpha when it comes to that. It is something I have always fought with him. He has done fine with neutered males in my experience, but that would need to be a meet and greet situation for sure. He is also a dog that will run you over if you let him. He needs structure and rules to be at his best.

I would like him to stay as close as possible, but that could be negotiated to the right home. I would also like him to stay intact so that he would be available for stud use in the future. If anyone knows of a good fit for Toby, feel free to reach out to me.
An ideal home would be one where he could move into semi retirement. He could still do regular farm chores for someone, be a loving pet, spend time with his new family, and be available for stud use to myself and a couple of close contacts. He is a dog with a ton of working ability and I would like to keep his genetics going if I can.

Absolutely NO shipping! Price will be dependent upon placement.

Toby is a really nice working dog. Toby is a half brother to our previous red stud, Rascal. His sire is the well known Spader Vintage Vaquero. He is out of Spader Good Onya Ginger, who works on Mushrush Red Angus Ranch. She boasts the wonderful Kylie genetics that have been successfully trialed in about every avenue. Toby is a very strong working dog. He has a lot of presence and doesn't back down from anything. He is a little more on the stubborn side, but I think that is what makes him such a tough working dog. He has worked cattle, sheep, goats, and ducks. Toby is people friendly but knows his family and they are his people. He enjoys playing fetch and swimming in water of any kind! He is a bigger dog, being on the top end of the breed standard, if not a little above it.

Toby Loading Cows

I spent some time working with Toby while he was here for breeding. He had a long layoff from working and came right back to work, a little rusty, but he polished up quickly.
